About General Surgery
General Surgery is a surgical specialty that deals with medical conditions involving the gastrointestinal tract, endocrine system, colon, liver, pancreas and rectum. A general surgeon performs surgery for a variety of conditions and cancers affecting the abdominal region—including problems with the gallbladder, stomach, small bowel, liver, pancreas, colon, and thyroid glands—as well as diseases involving the skin and soft tissues.
At UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center, our board-certified surgeons offer the following laparoscopic and open surgical procedures:
- Gallbladder removal
- Appendix removal
- Hernia repair
- Hiatal Hernia repair
- Colorectal Surgery, including colon resection
- Para thyroidectomy
- Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) catheter insertion
Making an Appointment
General Surgery at UNM SRMC is a referral-based clinic. Appointments are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with availability specific to the surgeon(s) seeing patients in clinic that day. To make an appointment, please call 505.994.7397.
For your appointment: Please remember to bring relevant medical records, copies of recent medical imaging related to your visit and a current list of all medications. If you are a new patient, you can download and fill out the New Patient History Form before your first appointment.
