We are pleased to introduce to you our team of Orthopaedic Surgeons
Dr. Becker is Board Certified in Orthopaedics as well as Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Originally from upstate New York, Dr. Becker completed residencies in Internal Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery at UNM. "I strongly believe in the goals of SRMC to educate and serve everyone in our population."
In his free time, Dr. Becker enjoys bicycling, baking large quanities of bread and pizza, studying astronomy and going on cross country skiing adventures throughout New Mexico.
Dr. Echols retired from the U.S. Air Force after almost 37 years of Active Duty and Guard/Reserve Service. He served as a flight surgeon with the 150th Fighter Squadron stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base.
“I have been honored over the last 34 years to treat native people from the region, veterans from across the Southwest, families from New Mexico to Idaho and Guardsmen, Reservists, Active Duty members and their dependents across two continents,” said Dr. Echols. “I can’t think of anything more rewarding than offering my diverse experience to the Sandoval County patients and families who will come to know and trust SRMC.”
Dr. Blankenhorn, a resident of Sandoval County, has spent most of his life on the east coast. He attended Penn State where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Masters in Biomedical Engineering at the Hershey Medical Center. He then continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh for medical school and completed his orthopaedic residency at Brown University. “I chose to work at SRMC to serve the people of the community in which I live,” said Dr. Blankenhorn. “SRMC has offered an interesting challenge to start a practice at a brand new facility.”
He and his wife enjoy spending time outdoors and often take their black lab on walks in the bosque, as well as camping, hiking, biking, skiing, fly fishing and exploring New Mexico.
Dr. Austin completed Medical School and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan, and a sportsmedicine/arthroscopy fellowship at Cincinnati Sportsmedicine and Orthopaedic Center. “I am excited to be a part of the health care team that will help SRMC grow and deliver high quality orthopaedic care to the residents of Sandoval County and New Mexico," said Dr. Austin. "SRMC has a state of the art facility as well as all of the resources and subspecialty care associated with the University of New Mexico Health System.”
Dr. Austin has practiced orthopaedic surgery for 6 years in Oregon, and his practice includes sports injuries, knee and shoulder pathology, and general orthopaedic surgery. He is married with two children and enjoys many outdoor activities including running, skiing, hiking and mountain biking as well as amateur photography, travel, chess and spending time with his family.
