This is an opportunity to positively impact your life and the lives of others. By giving your time, you give yourself the opportunity to develop new skills and talents, to get out in the community, to stay active, and to help others. Among other things, volunteering is a great way to boost your career options, explore new hobbies and interests, and meet a diverse range of people.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, "Live as if you'll die tomorrow. Learn as if you'll live forever." Volunteering provides you with the opportunity to learn what you are really good at and to develop those skills. It is never too late to learn/enhance skills and there is no reason why you should stop adding to your knowledge if you are currently employed or have finished your formal education. To celebrate life and help someone in need is the best way to share your spare time and the donation of that time is priceless. The impact that our volunteers have on the hospital, community, and patients is invaluable and greatly appreciated by all parties involved.

Volunteering allows you to be a part of the community and actively give back to those who are going through a tough time in their lives. No man or woman is an island and we are all co-dependent on each other as a community to grow and flourish. While some of the volunteer positions will focus on patient care, families and friends of patients also need our hand to hold, our shoulder to lean on, and our smiles to lend support. Our mission is to be the epitome of strength during a time when our patients and their families need it the most.

Additionally, people pay attention to your life outside the environment in which they have direct contact with you. For example, a potential employer will be interested in the activities that prove you possess a good work-life balance, just as academic institutions are interested in your extra-curricular activities. Volunteering reflects and supports a complete picture of who you are, and provides evidence of your commitment and dedication to helping others. Show people what you are passionate about and maybe you will inspire them too!
